Richest One
from the Resurrection Band album, Lament
Words and Music by Glenn Kaiser

G A C G A C

G A C G
1 If I had a penny for every town I've known
A C G
And if I had a nickel for every song I've sung
A C G
If I had a quarter for every tear I've cried
A C
And if I had a dollar for every hurt I've felt inside
G A C G A C
I'd be the richest, richest one in the world,
G A C
(Spoken) richest one in the world.

G A C G
2 If I had a ruby for every drop of blood you shed
A C G
And if I had an emerald for every single debt
A C G
Had a piece of silver for every sin you took
A C
And if I had a diamond for every beautiful truth in your book
G A C G AC G A
I'd be the richest, richest man in the world

G A C G A C G

D C G
3 When I was lost, a stranger to innocence
D C G
When I was guilty in the face of such evidence
D C G
When I was condemned, that's when the veil was rent
D C G
When I was broken, you came to my defense

(quietly)
A C G
If I had a ruby for every drop of blood you shed
A C G
And if I had an emerald for every single debt
A C G
If I had a piece of silver for every sin you took, Lord
A C G
If I had a diamond for every beautiful truth in your book
G A C G A C
I would be the richest, I would be the richest,

Lord, Lord, Lord, Lord, Lord
G A C G AC G
I believe I am the richest, I'm the richest one in the world.
AC G C G AC G A G AC G C
Yes, I am. Lord, I'm the richest one in the world
G AC
Oh, the richest one in the world
G
I'm the richest one in the whole wide world

A couple of notes: First, the song sounds best when you tune down a half
step and play it in F# instead of G. Second, this is a blues song, so some
improvising is called for in terms of timing of words with the music, etc.
Have fun.
