Live a life of love

This passage the other night at Bible Study really jumped out at me and just struck me.

Ephesians 5:1-2

1 Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children

2 and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.

I love the fact that the first verse tells us to be imitators of God. In all I do I am supposed to do the things that I know God does. And what does God do best, but love His children. He loves His children always. He never stops loving us. Even when I mess up, He still loves me. Does He get frustrated with me? Oh I'm sure He does, but that doesn't lessen the love He has for me. His love is fierce; His love is passionate; His love is unbridled; His love is the most perfect love I can experience. God's very nature is to love. He can never stop loving. If he did stop loving, then He wouldn't be love.

And because of Him always loving His children, He expects us to live a life of love in return with those around us. This is a love that doesn't expect anything in return. A relationship built upon expectation is not loving. But a relationship built upon expectancy is always active, always alive, always moving. It causes me to love God and love others around me. This love is shared between us because we are in relationship with one another. Relationships cause us to want to share and find joy in all things in each other. And it's in our sharing and experiencing joy together that love really becomes what it was meant to be. Love is moving, breathing, always in action. Love fulfills even the most broken person, even the most undeserving, because it is this love that makes us whole. And I thank God for that.

And as a book I just finished reading said "God is especially fond of you." In God's eyes none of us are loved more than the other, but is yet loved in a way that transcends our thinking and makes us special separate and yet together at the same time.
