MONDAY
". . . How refreshed I am by your power!" Psalm 92:10
Never Too Old
There's an old man who is over 80 years old often tells about his experiences and the things he's learned over his long life as a Christian. One day he said the Lord has a lot of work for him to do because there are a lot of old people nearby, and this was his opportunity for ministry. What an attitude - he's over 80! He said he goes to visit his neighbours to tell them about Jesus. He said, "There's one old man in his 70's I've been visiting and he's close to becoming a Christian!" Wow - a man in his 80's leading a 70 year old (who he called an old man) to Christ!
This old man is still serving the Lord with energy and excitement. Psalm 92:14 says, "Even in old age they will still produce fruit; they will remain vital and green." What this old friend doesn't realise is that he also has a big effect on me! When we get tired or we are tempted to be lazy, God reminds us of this 80 year old friend!
What about us? Do we say we're too old to serve the Lord? Or are we 'refreshed by God's power' (see Psalm 92:10) like our old friend? Rise up in God's strength and reach out to others. Or maybe we are still young? Look around! There are many faithful older people who continue to have a strong relationship with the Lord and can teach us a lot. Why don't you and me go and find an elderly friend or relative who can share their experiences with the Lord and challenge us? Then at the end of our life, we, like them, ". . . will declare, The LORD is just! He is my rock! There is nothing but goodness in him!" (Psalm 92:15)
